Lyrics & Music by John Phillips
Monday, Monday... so good to me Monday morning... it
was all I hoped it would be Oh Monday morning, Monday morning couldn't guarantee That Monday evening you would
still be here with me Monday, Monday... can't trust that day Monday, Monday... sometimes it just turns
out that way Oh Monday morning, you gave me no warning of what was to be Oh Monday, Monday... how could you leave
and not take me? Every other day... every other day... Every other day
of the week is fine, yeah But whenever Monday comes... but whenever Monday comes You can find me cryin' all
of the time Monday, Monday ... so good to me Monday, Monday ... it was all I hoped it would be Oh
Monday morning, Monday morning couldn't guarantee That Monday evening you would still be here with me … How could you leave and not take me? Monday, Monday ... Can’t trust that day Monday,
Monday ... Sometimes it just works out that way Monday, Monday ... Ooohhhh…. Monday, Monday
... Sometimes it just turns out that way Monday, Monday ... Can’t trust that day Can’t
trust that day Can’t trust that day Oooohhhhhh… Can’t trust Monday

A rather interesting series of events led me to record this version of Monday, Monday:
Last holiday season, my landlords asked me watch their house as they went on a cruise. One morning
I awoke to find that the alarm company had responded to a smoke alarm, found no problem and left a note. I entered their
house to check things, and discovered there was a low battery in one smoke detector in the living room. While I was there, I noticed some songbooks on their piano. I decided to browse them for songs I might want
to learn. Sure enough, one of them had 'I Left My Heart In San Francisco' ... a song I'd been wanting to
learn since I met Antonia Bennett (Tony's daughter) at the Winery Music Awards. I borrowed
the book and played various songs for a few days ... including 'Monday, Monday.' I played it in a different
way that soon inspired me to move from my grand piano to the studio ... launching the Pro Tools ... and this version was the
result. I originally named it 'Monday on Saturday,' but many overdubs and vocals later it returned to it's
original name.
