Upon our return to L.A., our managers (Kessler-Grass) put us up at the Oakwood Apartments near Warner Brothers and Universal.
This place is a festival of show biz people ... producers, directors, actors, actresses, musicians ... a place for all such
people to stay while working in the area. We felt like stars.
For about two or three months, we worked on our RCA album at Cherokee Studios (One of the best studios in the world!
We had a few beers with Alice Cooper while we were there.). Produced by Richie Wise & Kenny Kerner (who had produced
Gladys Knight & the Pips, Kiss, Stories, many others) and engineered by Warren Dewey (who also worked on most of those
Kerner & Wise projects, as well as the first Boston Album and many other top credits ... Warren would later introduce
me to sound design and audio post production.). The result was pretty amazing. Click the links below to hear songs from
the RCA album.
We renamed the band 'Serenade' ... we had a big playback party for press and agents and such ... we were set for our big
album release! One thing we didn't count on: The president of RCA Worldwide resigned. The VP who signed us resigned. Everything
in the RCA catalogue was frozen while some people were fired, others were hired. For about a year, all new talent was shelved
while RCA regrouped. Only 'safe' albums were released, like Elvis collections, Hall & Oats, John Denver, established
artists.
So we went into a holding pattern again ... playing clubs (including the then popular Starwood) and wondering if this
was going anwhere ....
